For specific help, we need to know what specific models and textures you are using.

As an example, if you are trying to use textures for a Posky on the default, it will never work. Peace, the Bean.

Hi all, Does anyone know of a free utility (and preferably very easy to use) to convert bmp's to dxt files? Specifically, I downloaded the posky erj145 which is very nice but the virtual cockpit textures are huge (4mb each) and slow to load. Descargar Xampp Control Panel V3.2.1 there. I wondered if converting them would speed things up.

ThanksThere is also a great little utility here in the library named bmp2dxt3.zip It will convert textures in a 'batch' rather than having to do each one individually. The file also includes a copy of the Image Tool program - this is what actually does the conversion. It is very easy to use - but read the instructions carefully. The textures were bmps, and it was making the fps drop dramatically. I downloaded bmp2dxt3.zip and put the two files, (imagetool, and bmp2dxt3 into the Portland Medical Center folder. The I clicked on bmp2dxt3. It made the texture files smaller, but they were still showing.bmp.

Mw 3 Zone Download here. The fps drops still when I look directly at the medical center. Not sure if I did something wrong.

Any help appreciated. The texture files can be the same format and have either a.BMP or.DXT extension. That does not matter as far as load times, resources, etc.

What does matter is what is the actual format of the file. Normally when a designer wants the best color depth and detail - they will use a 32-bit uncompressed file which is 1024x1024 pixels in size. That translates to a near 4mb file.

Many folks, including a lot of the default FS2004 textures, are using DXT3 compression - which with a 1024x1024 pixel image procudes a near 1mb file if Mip-Maps are not included. A 1.33mb file if Mip-Maps are included. With a 512x512 image the file size is 257kb for no Mip-Maps. Again, the file extension does not matter to FS.

A texture file is a texture file. Btw there are two other DXT files formats used in FS2004 - DXT1 and DXT5 - both normally named as.BMP. Default FS2004 also uses several other texture file formats. I don't know why MS decided in FS2000n to name DXT compression files as.BMP - but since many of the default aircraft models use both DXT compression files and non-compressed files - having a common file extension made it easier on the designers, and especially on addon developers.
